It took a little while, but this kid finally got a birthday cake! With candles! And singing! It’s good to be 10. I told him I believe in celebrating birthday months so he is totally on track. He wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Can’t argue with that. 🎂 ❤️

The absolute very last day the twins had together before they left for college … so they snuck in some surfing (and falling) with friends. 💕 Julia almost missed her flight. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I can’t believe another fun summer is coming to a close. Love that this summer was jam-packed with fun for these kids, but I think it made the time fly even faster.

I feel like my tuna fishing adventures need a permanent spot on the gram. Such an unexpected quick trip with friends! I love fishing and my kids love fishing, but I have never been TUNA fishing so when my friend said, “Hey, we are on the Vineyard for two weeks, come ovah!”, that was an obvious YES.

The Details 🌟 🌟

We ride at dawn. 😂 No, for real, DAWN. Boat prep started at 5am and we pulled out of Menemsha Harbor at exactly 6am.

After I enjoyed the beautiful ride out of the harbor and the beautiful views of Gayhead, I went back to bed. 😆 Not gonna lie. My friend and his dad were driving and I didn’t really need to stay awake for our 2 hour journey to the middle of the sea.

After about two hours, the 4 tuna rods were put out and secured. And we waited. But not for long. I finally decided to awaken from my slumber when I heard a ruckus on the deck. My friend was reeling in a tuna. 💪🏻 What a way to start the day.

We bled the tuna and put it on ice - well, actually we just put it in the cooler with the beer and leftover ice from yesterday. 😂

We put the rods back out and put the boat back in gear and hoped to catch another one. But, if not, honestly the mood on the boat was absolutely exuberant.

After we had turned around and were heading back to Menemsha, slowly, still optimistic we would catch another one, the line on the same lucky rod suddenly engaged. ANOTHER tuna was on and this one was mine. I was set up on the rod and told to just REEL and REEL and REEL. The other three rods were cleared so as not to get any lines tangled. One person in the flybridge was watching the line and looking for the tuna. Two people were on the rail - ready to gaff it and pull it in before it tried to go under the boat. My arm was absolutely dying.

Suddenly, we all hear Chris yell, “I see color!,” and we know the tuna is really close. Over the starboard rail, I see the tuna FAST approaching. I keep reeling. Within seconds, the tuna was gaffed and pulled into the boat.

What a freaking rush. The tuna limit is two per day, so we were officially done and headed back to the island. So thankful for adventurous friends and this awesome place I get to call home! 🎣
