Homemade Baileys (For Coffee or Sipping!)

I really have never been so proud of a copycat recipe as I am with this homemade Baileys. So good. So, so good. My dad helped taste test it for me while I was mixing it up for Christmas gifts. He and my mom just had me pour it over ice so they could sit and sip. I prefer my homemade Bailey’s in my coffee. Wowzer. This is going to really shake up your morning coffee routine. Jump to Recipe

Homemade Baileys! DIY. You’ll never buy it again…

Every Christmas, I like to come up with something edible to hand over to friends and family. Usually something edible and decadent. Chocolates, fudge, desserts… sometimes homemade vanilla extract makes an appearance. Sometimes apple cider moonshine. This year, I was really craving something decadent and sweet but also comforting.

Espresso Powder for Homemade Baileys

By adding cocoa powder and espresso powder, this homemade Baileys has a bit of a mocha taste to it. It’s so smooth and lovely that you really could sip it on its own! However, if you are a coffee fanatic like me, you are going to want to put this in your coffee and top it with some frothed milk. Set up a coffee stand on your front lawn and charge 10 bucks. You will make a killing.

Seriously. Set up a coffee stand…

For the ingredients, I did a little research to find the most gluten-free / gluten-friendly whiskey. Makers Mark is at the top of the list. I have also had great success with Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey. For the other ingredients, use quality ingredients that will have a fridge life as long as you want to let your Baileys hang out in your fridge. For example, I get delicious local cream delivered to my house every week. I did not use it in my homemade Bailey’s because my local cream has a variable shelf life. Yay for local ingredients BUT for this project, I bought half and half at the grocery store with an expiration date a few weeks away.

Homemade Baileys – all you need is 5 minutes and a blender.

After my first round of Baileys went out with the Christmas gifts, I started having empty glass bottles show up on my doorstep with little love notes. Please refill me. If you believe in good food karma, you will refill these lonely, empty bottles.

For the glass bottles, you can use any Mason jars you have hanging around or you can buy some cute ones at a craft store or online. I bought some 12 ounce glass bottles at Sur La Table and then I found 16-ounce glass bottles online at Amazon. I used chalkboard labels to label each bottle and I was on my way! Super cute, super easy. If you have some friends who need some love, this homemade Baileys is the way to go.
