My kids love tofu in all forms. Me? Not so much. However, I have had amazing tofu once in a while and I’ve never been able to recreate it. Until today.
Super simple!!! We used this simple crispy tofu on a stir fry with shrimp that I bought already cooked from the seafood bar at Fresh Market. Satisfied all the peeps.
To make amazing crispy tofu …
I used extra firm tofu. I drained it and then wrapped it in a towel and left it on the counter while I did carpool.
This is Gluten-Free!!
When I got home, I patted the tofu dry and cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces. I combined corn starch and plenty of salt and pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch.
Saute!
Heat olive oil or toasted sesame oil in a large pan – just cover the bottom of the pan with oil. Sesame oil adds such a nice flavor. It is a stir fry game changer.
Shake the extra cornstarch off the tofu. Carefully add to the pan. Cook about 2-3 minutes and then flip the tofu. Remove the tofu to a plate with a paper towel on it to absorb any extra oil or moisture.
Add to your stir fry or eat it standing over your stove. No judgment.

Thanks so much, Scarlet! It really is one of our favorite easy meals.
I think this recipe is missing one or more steps. How does the cornstarch get into the tofu?
Hi, Jonathan! Let me check to make sure that step is clear. I just lightly toss the tofu in the cornstarch after I have pressed the water from it and cut it into chunks.
